8 Things to Look Forward to at the Liverpool Irish Festival

The Liverpool Irish Festival returns to the city to celebrate the unique relationship with Ireland. A showcase event of the very best in music, arts and entertainment.

We’ve long had connections with Ireland and this 10-day long festival celebrates the Irish contribution to Liverpool’s cultural identity and heritage.

There are a plethora of events happening throughout the city during Liverpool Irish Festival and we’re really excited about what’s on offer. The celebrations start today and go on until Sunday 23rd October, and we’ve listed the top 8 things you can look forward to.

Lots of Dancing

The Irish are well known for their dancing and you can expect to see lots of Irish dancing over the course of the next 10 days. As the drinks flow and the inhibitions start to fade, we’re sure there will be some spectacular dancing on show for all to enjoy.

Sense of Community

Scousers and Irish have long had a strong bond, with many sharing ancestries.

This bond is celebrated during the Liverpool Irish Festival and you really do get an impeccable sense of community. Everyone is friendly and everyone is in good spirits ensuring that this festival is one to remember.

Delicious Food

From Scouse to Irish stew, we guarantee you’ll find some delicious food on offer at Liverpool’s Irish Festival. Both Scousers and the Irish are renowned for their love of good, home cooked food. This year  we’re really looking forward to seeing all the stops being pulled out.

Something for the Kids

Liverpool Irish Festival is known for being a fantastic event for all of the family. Whether you have young children, teenagers or fully grown adults, we guarantee there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Liverpool Irish Festival.

There will be a full family day at Museum of Liverpool and the family ceili which have been hugely popular in previous years and are expected again to be utterly brilliant.

Amazing Drinks

As with all festivals, drinks are at the top of the list.

The Irish festival takes place across a number of venues in the city. Some of which are world famous Irish bars sure to be celebrating in style.

Pop into any Irish watering hole for a decent pint, good banter and probably some dancing too.

Soak Up the Heritage

We’ve got oodles of heritage to share and show off, and the Liverpool Irish Festival is going to be showing this off throughout the course of the next 10 days. The whole festival is furthermore extremely educational. Children and adults are able to learn something new about the cities heritage and culture and how this was impacted by the Irish.

You’ll Never Be Bored

You won’t believe how much is planned for the Liverpool Irish Festival.

There is a music evening hosted by Mikey Kenny at the Caledonia, Ceílí class. A social hub and materials library at the Everyman Theatre Street Café and an Irish session at the Caledonia. All showcasing some of the best music and drink in the city.

Opportunity to see Emerging Musicians

Liverpool Irish Festival is a hub for emerging artists and musicians. This means that it is a fantastic place to catch something new and support local bands, both Irish and Liverpudlian.

These gigs are often very intimate and you can really enjoy the music and appreciate their stage presence.

The Bastion’s Pastry Chef Wins Apprentice of the Year

Investing in the future

Here at Signature Living we’re dedicated to providing an environment where apprentices can thrive and really develop their core skills. We work in conjunction with a number of local higher educational institutions. Together with The City of Liverpool College we provide young adults with a real life working environment. We are considered to be one of the city’s most exciting accommodation providers across a varying range of sectors. From builders to chefs and receptionists, we offer a wide range of Liverpool apprenticeship opportunities. We’re particularly proud when our apprentices are recognised.

Awards in recognition

This year’s Switch Onto Business awards were particularly exciting as one of our very own apprentices was nominated for the award ‘Apprentice of Year’.

The award set out to recognise an individual under a Liverpool apprenticeship programme who has taken ownership for their personal development. These efforts then leading to a positive impact towards their contribution to the organisation.

We’re delighted to announce that Amy Wilson, an apprentice pastry chef at The Bastion took home the award.  We couldn’t be prouder of her achievements over the past 12+ months.

Kind words form her mentor

Head Chef, Matt Cox said of Amy;

“Amy had just turned 16 years old the month before we opened The Shankly Hotel in August last year. Never having been in a kitchen environment before but knowing this is where she wanted to work. Most importantly she wanted to specialise in pastry. Going from being very timid in the kitchen to running the veg, pastry or larder sections. On occasion all three at once when the kitchen needed it. Amy is innovative, will try anything, experiments, and has lots of great ideas and works as hard as anyone I have ever met. Regularly working extra hours making sure that what she does is the best it can be. Now having signed up to do NVQ Level 3 in pastry at her own expense and in her own time, using up a valuable day off in the process. She is very driven and wants to succeed.

Amy still wouldn’t say boo to a goose but comes into her own as soon as service starts. She takes no prisoners and will do anything it takes to get the job done no matter what stands in her way. Such an exemplary member of the team and there’s always a smile on her face. I would put her up there with one of the best apprentices I have ever worked with in 20 years of catering.”

We’d like to again congratulate Amy on her award and her incredible development since she has been with us at The Bastion Bar & Restaurant.

Love Island’s Olivia & Alex Enjoy a Stay at The Shankly Hotel

The Shankly Hotel was thrilled to recently welcome Love Island’s Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen. The reality show’s hottest couple joined our luxurious Liverpool hotel, as Olivia was in town to model for Miss Pap.

Love at first site

Olivia and Alex met on ITV’s Love Island this summer, as both were hoping to find love in a stunning villa. The pair had an instant attraction to each other, sticking by each other’s side even when the show tried to test each other’s commitment. Months after leaving the villa, the couple continue to be head over heels in love, joining The Shankly Hotel for a romantic hotel break in the city.

The beautiful TV personality was quick to take to Instagram to show off the Miss Pap clothing line, with our beautiful hotel providing the perfect backdrop for her post. She also promoted the Miss Pap Snapchat account, modelling Halloween inspired outfits at The Shankly Hotel. While Olivia was in town to model at Miss Pap, Alex took the opportunity to meet up with his friend and Liverpudlian Alex Cannon, who recently starred in Big Brother, to enjoy a gym session and a Nandos at Queen’s Square.

Living the life of luxury

The power couple both seemed to enjoy their stay at the hotel, with Olivia Instagramming photos of her relaxing in our Bridal Suite bed and Jacuzzi bath, proving they had a truly relaxing time. In fact, they couple loved our hotel so much, Olivia wrote: “Had a lovely day with the @misspap team – Olivia takeoverrr! Now me and my @ab_bowen are living the life of luxury for the night in our beautiful suite. Can’t thank @shanklyhotel enough.”

We hope both Olivia and Alex, along with all our guests – past, present and future – had an enjoyable stay at The Shankly Hotel. We are proud to have been their hotel of choice and hope they will join us at our Liverpool hotel in the near future.

If you would like to book a stay at The Shankly Hotel, call our friendly team today on 0151 236 0166.
