It’s nearly time for Marie Curie’s annual ‘Every Daffodil Counts’ campaign and we at The Shankly Hotel in Liverpool are looking forward to lending our support by hosting a special Marie Curie Daffodil Afternoon Tea.
The amazing work that Marie Curie nurses do across the UK is immeasurable. They provide unyielding support to people living with terminal illness and their families.
Often during their last few months of life people with terminal illnesses spend most of their time in hospital rooms, away from home or loved ones. This is simply because there isn’t an adequate level of care at home for that person and their needs.
Marie Curie nurses work day and night to make sure that as many people as possible can enjoy the final stages of their lives in the comfort of their own home.
The nurses work free of charge day and night to help support families who are caring for somebody with a terminal illness, or to simply provide companionship for those without families.
The very first Daffodil Appeal took place in 1986, where volunteers were raising funds for the charity by handing out fresh daffodils and collecting donations from the public.
Since then the appeal has grown and in 2005 the charity began using the term ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’.
Now, 12 years on, Marie Curie are the largest provider of UK beds outside of the NHS, in anyone of their nine charity supported hospices.
The Great Daffodil Appeal allows for an excellent standard of one to one nursing care in homes across the UK. Something that families and those who are terminally ill simply cannot put a price on.
The Shankly hotel Daffodil Afternoon Tea
The Shankly Hotel was built upon the family values of a great man, and it is by those family values that we continue to support charities like Marie Curie, who are making the world a better place.
We will be handing out Daffodils during the month of March in support of the Great Daffodil Appeal and will look forward to the amazing turnout expected at our Marie Curie Daffodil Afternoon Tea.
The event is due to take place on the 25th March between 12-3pm. To arrange your attendance and do your part for Marie Curie call 0151 541 9999 and quote Marie Curie.
Every little bit helps, so if you aren’t attending the Daffodil Afternoon Tea, pop in and donate for a Daffodil. What costs a little to you is priceless to a terminally ill person and their family.

Winter is for Indulging
What better time of year to indulge than winter? While Liverpool is filled with restaurants and bars, the Bastion Bar and Restaurant within the Shankly itself is undoubtedly one of the greatest, offering high-quality meals that are worth staying in for.
From the famous Shankly Burger to fresh lighter bites, there’s something for everyone right within The Bastion Bar & Restaurant.
Drinks and Midnight Munchies
Whether you’re visiting us for a girls’ getaway or a romantic weekend, you may want to order late night drinks or food while you cosy up with a film after exploring.
You can avoid the usual takeaways and opt for the freshly prepared midnight munches menu available from just downstairs at The Bastion which are served from 11pm until 5am.
We understand making the most of a trip usually doesn’t include going to bed too early, so our customer service doesn’t disappear through the night! Featuring delicious pizza, sandwiches and hot dogs, there’s plenty available for unwinding before a comfortable night’s sleep.
For afternoon tea enthusiasts or those yet to be converted, we can assure you that ours is truly something else! From £19.99 you can enjoy an array of sandwiches, savoury scones and delightfully sweet cakes, accompanied by tea or glasses of bubbly.
After a day of shopping or exploring the sights, there’s nothing better.
The Shankly experience
Why not treat your other half to the ultimate Liverpool Football Club experience? Not only can you sit back and relax during your stay, but you can enjoy the unique memorabilia kindly provided by the Shankly family themselves. The memorabilia we have on show includes many items never seen by the public before.
The nostalgia and sentiment of the Shankly experience gives our hotel character that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else. Not to mention, the beauty of the historic Millennium House building and the central location make it one of a kind.
