Marie Curie Daffodil Afternoon Tea at The Shankly Hotel

Posted on 09.03.2017

It’s nearly time for Marie Curie’s annual ‘Every Daffodil Counts’ campaign and we at The Shankly Hotel in Liverpool are looking forward to lending our support by hosting a special Marie Curie Daffodil Afternoon Tea.

Marie Curie

The amazing work that Marie Curie nurses do across the UK is immeasurable. They provide unyielding support to people living with terminal illness and their families.

Often during their last few months of life people with terminal illnesses spend most of their time in hospital rooms, away from home or loved ones. This is simply because there isn’t an adequate level of care at home for that person and their needs.

Marie Curie nurses work day and night to make sure that as many people as possible can enjoy the final stages of their lives in the comfort of their own home.

The nurses work free of charge day and night to help support families who are caring for somebody with a terminal illness, or to simply provide companionship for those without families.

Daffodil Campaign

The very first Daffodil Appeal took place in 1986, where volunteers were raising funds for the charity by handing out fresh daffodils and collecting donations from the public.

Since then the appeal has grown and in 2005 the charity began using the term ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’.

Now, 12 years on, Marie Curie are the largest provider of UK beds outside of the NHS, in anyone of their nine charity supported hospices.

The Great Daffodil Appeal allows for an excellent standard of one to one nursing care in homes across the UK. Something that families and those who are terminally ill simply cannot put a price on.

The Shankly Hotel was built upon the family values of a great man, and it is by those family values that we continue to support charities like Marie Curie, who are making the world a better place.

We will be handing out Daffodils during the month of March in support of the Great Daffodil Appeal and will look forward to the amazing turnout expected at our Marie Curie Daffodil Afternoon Tea.

The event is due to take place on the 25th March between 12-3pm. To arrange your attendance and do your part for Marie Curie call 0151 541 9999 and quote Marie Curie.

Every little bit helps, so if you aren’t attending the Daffodil Afternoon Tea, pop in and donate for a Daffodil. What costs a little to you is priceless to a terminally ill person and their family.
