What’s On | Preston Christmas Events for the Festive Season 2019

Can you feel a touch of magic in the air? It’s time to start planning how you’re going to spend the festive months in Preston. There’s plenty of Yuletide happenings ready to kick start the most wonderful time of the year in the city, including lots of Preston Christmas events throughout the winter months.

Here at The Shankly Preston, we cannot wait for the city’s Christmas Lights Switch On, officially marking the start of Christmas celebrations for 2019. We look forward to being part of the city’s festive celebrations in The Carriage, as we serve up a fantastic Christmas Day Dinner and daily festive meals throughout the season.

For a sneak peek at what you can expect this Christmas from our beautiful hotel, take a look at the sparkling Christmas events we’re hosting at The Shankly Preston. From corporate Christmas party packages to amazing New Year’s celebrations and exciting Christmas Day dinners, we’ve got something for everyone.

Until then, it’s time to head out and enjoy all the Yuletide excitement happening around Preston, from local artisan markets to classic Christmas stage shows. Here are all the Preston Christmas events in the city this year…

Christmas Fairy Workshops

When: 13th October 

Where: Barton Grange Garden Centre

Christmas has certainly come early this year in Preston as people are beginning to gather together for some fun and festive crafts all over the city.

One place where you can take the kids to get in the festive spirit is Barton Grange Garden Centre.

Make something super special to top off your Christmas tree this year and help them create a handmade treasure they can use every year and pass down through the family.

There’s a whole story that comes as part of your visit and you get to walk away with a treasured keepsake that will be part of your family for generations.

Santa’s Post Box

When: starting November

Where: Brockholes Nature Reserve

If you are planning on visiting Preston during the festive season, get the little ones out in the fresh air with a trip to Brockholes Nature Reserve.

Here they can pick up a special pack to help write a letter to Santa, before heading out on specially laid trails around the reserve to post their request in Santa’s Post Box.

The entire event encourages their exploration of nature, as well as an appreciation of the great outdoors, plus the entire event will be topped off with a delicious hot chocolate served at the end of the trail in the magnificent Kestrel Kitchen.

Tickets are just £5.00 online and dates are available throughout November.

Preston Christmas Lights Switch On

When: 23rd November

Where: Flag Market

Put Saturday 23rd November in your diaries if you want to see the streets of Preston lit up for another festive season. This year’s event is set to be a suitably festive affair with up to ten thousand spectators expected to attend.

And although performing acts and this year’s special guest are yet to be confirmed, there’s no doubt it’s going to be a celebratory start to the festive season. The ceremony and concert will be taking place on the Flag Market.

A Dickens Christmas Carol

When: 24th November

Where: Preston Playhouse 

It doesn’t get much better than having the classic tale of A Christmas Carol performed live by the authors own kin.

Book tickets to one of the most exciting Preston Christmas events to have ever arrived on stage in the city, as Gerald Dickens performs his great grandfathers’ timeless literary masterpiece before audiences in the lead up to Christmas.

Tickets are just £15 per person for two showings starting at 2.30 pm and 7.30 pm. 

Hop on Board the Santa Train

When: 30th, November 1st, 7th, 8th December

Where: Ribble Steam Railway Museum

Is there anything more festive than the sight of an old-fashioned steam chain chugging along the tracks?

This year in Preston bag your tickets to jump on the Santa Train and enjoy a journey sprinkled with seasonal magic.

Parents get welcomed on board with a glass of tipple and mince pies whilst, the little ones can enjoy a chocolate lolly and plenty of festive fun for the day.

Plus, visitors get the chance to enjoy a festively trimmed museum complete with miniature train rides and hands-on displays.

Artisan Market at Fishergate Shopping Centre

Where: Fishergate Shopping Centre 

Bringing all the top Lancashire creative talents together under one roof, festive event organisers are inviting everyone to enjoy a wintery, wonderful Christmas artisan market in the heart of Preston.

Make your lists and check them twice, for this is the place to pick up a huge selection of unique handcrafted Christmas gifts to put under your trees this year.

Not just a fab place for all your Christmas shopping, but there’ll be plenty of fun family-friendly workshops as well as all the delicious seasonal foods you can eat.

Harris Christmas Fair

Where: The Harris Museum

This is your chance to discover the beauty of the Grade II listed building in all it’s seasonal splendour, plus you’ll be able to pick up all those handmade knick-knacks that can really make someones Christmas unique and special.

A fabulous weekend out in Preston during the festive season and a great excuse to explore one of the city’s most impressive heritage buildings.

Stalls will be open from 11:00 am onwards. 

Rock FM Cash for Kids Christmas Concert

When: 30th November

Where: St Michael & All Angels Church.

In the spirit of giving at Christmas, do your part and attend Rock FM’s Cash for Kids this festive season at St Michael & All Angels Church.

This special seasonal charity event will include a series of stalls selling all sorts of Christmassy arts and crafts goodies, live entertainment and plenty of Yuletide refreshments.

Entry is free and all proceeds from the event will be given to help workers support the vulnerable, disadvantaged children and those living with a disability. Do your part to make somebodies Christmas special in Preston this year at Rock FM’s Cash for Kids Christmas Concert.

Brockholes Santa’s Grotto

When: 7th,8th, 14th, 15th, 21st December

Where: Brockholes Nature Reserve

Taking things back to tradition this Christmas, Brockholes Nature Reserve are creating their very own Santa’s Grotto set upon the floating Visitor Village within the reserve.

Every child who pays Santa a visit will receive an age-appropriate gift and get to tell Santa all about their wish list for Christmas, plus there’ll be a perfect chance to snap a selfie with the man in red himself.

Tickets start at just £7.50 per child and staggered time slots are available throughout December

A Black & Gold Christmas Concert

When: 13th December 

Where: The Continental

Forget a white Christmas in Preston this year, at The Continental, they’ll be warming everyone up with Black and Gold, a Northern Soul and Motown band who are known to bring the grooves.

This festive season, book yourself tickets to see the greatest ever Northern Soul band from the last decade and watch them cover the music from the archives of some legendary artists.

Get your dancing shoes on and get into the groove this Christmas at The Continental for a Black and Gold Christmas concert.

Tickets start at just £11.00 per person and the show starts at 8 pm.

Christmas Day Dinner at The Carriage
