Dedicated to the late, great Bill Shankly, this fascinating name derives from a slice of Shankly heritage that has captured the imaginations of Preston locals. After a successful playing career with Carlisle United, Bill Shankly received a telegram offering him a contract with a new club. This club was Preston North End, a bigger and better team than Carlisle.  Bill Shankly accepted the offer and caught a train from Carlisle to Preston. He travelled in a luxurious First Class rail carriage and it was in this carriage that he officially signed his football contract with Preston North End Football Club.

Highlighting a glorious piece of footballing history, everyone at The Shankly Hotel Preston is extremely excited to see this wonderful vision brought to life. Chris Shankly Carline, Bill Shankly’s grandson, can’t wait to see this beautiful restaurant full of the people of Preston; “My Grandfather signed his football contract with Preston North End Football Club whilst travelling in a first class carriage between Carlisle and Preston. It was very fitting to use the name of ‘The Carriage’ as this is where his journey to Preston really began.”
