Things to Do Every Day During October Half Term Holidays

Another school holiday is approaching and rather than spend the entire October half term holidays struggling to keep your kids entertained, bring them into Liverpool and enjoy fun activities every day of the week.

From the first to the last day of the October half term holidays there’s something fun, educational and exciting to do in Liverpool. Book a night or two in The Shankly Hotel for part of your half term holiday plans, and stay in the heart of the city to be close to all the action

Saturday 20TH

The official first day of the October half term holidays can start with a bang at the Liverpool Irish Festival.

Take in some of the wonderful Irish traditions and experience the culture that helped shape the city we know and love today. The Liverpool Irish Festival begins on the 18th October and will be running in venues all over the city throughout October half term.

Big Wheel Liverpool - October half term holidays

Next, enjoy an unbeatable view of the wonderful World Heritage waterfront and the rest of the city by taking a ride on the Big Wheel.

Soar above the city at 196 feet and take in the commentary telling all about what you are seeing during the ride.

Sunday 21ST

Get the kids to experience a special piece of Liverpool’s history by taking a trip on Snowdrop, the Dazzle Ferry. Sail across the Mersey onboard this unique floating artwork and enjoy learning the inspiration for its unique design.

After completing the full round trip, hop back onto shore and pay a visit to The Beatles Story on Albert Dock where they’ll be making paper lanterns especially for Diwali, The Festival of Light.

Make your way to the chillout area at The Beatles Story and get hands-on creating your very own paper lanterns using all the exotic colours and inspirations of India to make yours as bold and bright as possible.

Workshops will take part daily throughout October half term holidays from 2 pm – 4 pm.

Monday 22ND

There’s nothing more fun than spending time with your little ones during the October half term holidays. Instead of sitting in the house why not get the kids to learn more in fun and exciting surroundings.

At Merseyside Maritime Museum your little ones can get stuck into creating some pirate themed crafts such as masks, treasure chests and their very own Polly parrots. The craft workshops will happen from 1 pm – 4 pm and are free of charge.

Continue the crafting theme and infuse some African culture into their October half term holidays at the International Slavery Museum Wonderful Weaves workshop. Here the kids can learn all about life in West Africa and create a piece of woven artwork inspired by their findings.

The event runs from 1 pm – 3 pm and is totally free of charge.

Tuesday 23RD

Create your own craft skeleton for Halloween and learn the correct names for each and every bone along the way. Get the kids out and about doing something fun during the October half term holidays and pay a visit to the Museum of Liverpool’s creative craft workshop.

Two-time slots will be hosted between 11 am – 12.30pm then 1.30pm – 4 pm.

Or if you have a budding artist in your midst, then let them become a part of The Big Draw this year at TATE Liverpool. Founded in 2000 this amazing festival covers a global audience and helps encourage people to realise the values and benefits of drawing.

A creative artist-led workshop will take place in TATE Liverpool between 1 pm – 4 pm from 23rd – 26th.

If, like most kids, yours are dinosaur mad come to see the remnants of the dragon-like creatures that once roamed the earth.

Still fascinating us millions of years after they were wiped from existence Dino Dave’s Dynamic Dinosaurs, will help your little ones discover more about the amazing lost world of dinosaurs whiand give them the chance to touch real live Dino bones.

Join Dino Dave and his extinct reptilian friends in the World Museum’s atrium at regular intervals throughout the day.

Wednesday 24TH

Learn more about the importance of customs control in a fun and exciting way at the Merseyside Maritime Museum with Sniffer and Smugglebuster.

These two helpful characters will show you how illegal contraband is found and dealt with at our very busy border and customs control centres. The workshops will take place from 12.30 pm – 3.30 pm and are completely free to enjoy.

Over the week of half term, Sefton Park Palm house will be a hive of Halloween activity. During the day arts and crafts workshops will be taking place inviting little monsters of all ages to make lanterns and super spooky masks.

Later in the evening, the Palm House will fill up with some curious characters who will join the kids in a special Halloween parade. With food, drinks and plenty of Halloween fun and games, The Monster Halloween Ball at Sefton Park will be a terrific treat for your kids this half term.

Daytime events will take place until 4 pm with the Halloween Ball and Parade kicking off at 5.30pm.

Thursday 25TH

Next time to take a trip across the river and explore the wonders of the picture perfect Port Sunlight Village. At Lady Lever Art Gallery a special exhibition opens in October displaying the whimsical work of Quentin Blake whose illustrations can be seen in most of our favourite children’s books from the past.

The exhibition taking place in Lady Lever Art Gallery will showcase some of the finest examples of his illustrations from John Yeomans enchanting storybooks.

An exciting and interactive Story Explorers event will help little ones experience all the magic of Blakes illustrations through song, play dance and other sensory activities. From 10.30am – 11.15am this wonderful event is fun, free and family friendly.

Then back over the water get hands-on with the history of Merseyside with Liverpool’s archaeology collection at The Museum of Liverpool. Everything from Stone Age artefacts to Roman Pottery will be on display to touch and feel letting your kids learn more about times gone by.

Friday 26TH

Visit Speke Hall this October half term holidays and hunt down some of the ghouls, ghosts and frightful folklore characters that were said to have been sighted here.

Follow an expert around the ancient grounds and gardens of Speke Hall as they retell stories surrounding the buildings haunting history. The sight of Speke Hall itself is spectacular so why not learn a little more about the buildings past during October half term with all the family.

Saturday 27TH

What kid doesn’t love getting their face painted?

This October half term holidays make your way to Waterstones in Liverpool ONE where the Face Painting fun will be happening 11 am – 4 pm. The Spooktacular face painting theme will be Halloween and your little monsters can have a ghoulish makeover then sit down to hear some super scary stories.

Back at the International Slavery Museum, there will be a dance demonstration unlike any you’ve ever seen before. A special performance will tell the stories of three characters from 17th century Brazil and modern-day, each fighting to be released from enslavement.

After the play, two different workshops will explore the powerful messages told in the story with a group discussion and special dance performance. Get your groove on in Liverpool at The International Slavery Museum between 1 pm – 4 pm.

Sunday 28TH

After all this fun you might need some time to unwind and relax as a family and that’s where Yoga Bears come in. Join a fun family Yoga workshop in Sefton Park’s Palm House and put the fun into exercise again.

Do something that’s healthy and enjoyable for the whole family, getting everyone to work together as a team and have a laugh whilst doing so. Yoga Bears starts at 10 am and runs for an hour with prices starting at just £10 for an adult and child.

Finally, there’s no better way to finish your October half term holidays in Liverpool than by climbing up St Johns Beacon and checking out the entire city from 452 feet in the air.

Look down at everything you’ve explored during your city break and see how far your sights stretch. On a clear day, you might even see the Blackpool Tower in the distance or Snowdon Mountain top looking out towards Wales.
